The Maxie Cats
In many ways, Space City Cats was borne out of my desire to help the Maxie Cats. I was leaving the doctor’s office (on Maxie St.) one day when I spotted a group of pitiful looking cats eating food in a ditch. The image of these cats stuck with me, and I soon reached out for help on Nextdoor. I got connected with the now President of Space City Cats, and he began teaching me TNR. An important part of TNR is involving the colony feeder in the process. As the primary food source, colony feeders play a crucial role in the TNR and maintenance of stray cat colonies. Through working with the colony feeder, we TNR’ed over 20 cats at the Maxie St. colony, and three kittens were removed and adopted into loving homes: Tiny, Pumpkin, and Kevin. This experience served as my formal introduction to TNR, and I felt good about what we were doing and the difference we were making in the lives of these cats.
